A successful nail salon business in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire has expanded after opening brand-new headquarters in a former church.
What began as a nailcare salon with a fairy tale theme for entrepreneur and owner Annabel Maginnis has now grown into an international brand, with the new premises based on Watlands View.
The business began with Maginnis painting clients’ nails at her mother’s kitchen table and became “Nails by Annabel”, with a salon on Lower Street. Seven years later, she now runs a global brand called “Glitterbells” and has relocated to a converted church that houses her new HQ, a salon and shop.
The transformation of the Methodist church into a business premises took two years and £500,000 to complete. The church’s original columns were styled with gold leaf, radiators and floors were painted pink and clouds were depicted on the ceilings.
Maginnis commented that she wanted a property that was big enough to fit everything she envisioned including the salon, a product shop, room for stock and several training rooms and the church ticked all the boxes. She said that the main room of the former house of worship is now among largest training sites for UK nail technicians, adding:
“I love bringing glitter and joy into people’s lives, whether that’s the customers or the thousands of nail techs I help to train every single year.”
Beauty care sector and hospitality business loans often help growing companies with customer-facing services renovate the premises they purchase to aid expansion.
